Show Your Cat You Care And Keep The Little Cute Pet Looking Good
June 2nd, 2010Of course your cat will know that you care for it when it gets fed regularly, and when it has a really comfortable place to sleep at any time. However, caring for cats does not only mean playing and loving your cat – there are other things that are necessary to show that you care for your cat. For instance, to keep your cat in tip-top condition, you need to see that your cat is kept on a good diet.
Ideally, your cat should have food with a high protein content, which is very important for growth and repair of tissues, as well as to provide energy. However, a meal of only meat is not suitable. This is because while it is high in protein and fat, there is a deficiency of calcium; so a small quantity of powered bone meal can be added to the food.
Caring for cats can be a little tricky though, so the best thing to do if you are at all unsure as to which foods to give your cat to keep it healthy and in good condition, is to get advice from your vet. He or she will recommend foods that your cat will enjoy, as well as ensure that your cat is really satisfied at meal times. Fresh water should, of course, be available to your cat at all times.
Many people, although they love their cats dearly, seem to think that by giving there cats more food than is necessary, that they are showing how much they care for it. This is so wrong though; they are actually shortening their cat’s life, and probably causing health problems that would otherwise not have been there. It is very important to not over-feed your cat.
Another very important aspect in caring for cats is grooming. Cats are very proud animals and like to look really good all the time. Apart from helping to keep your cat looking really smart, the most important reason for grooming your cat is to get rid of all the dead hair, and to reduce the possibility of fur balls from forming when the cat grooms itself.
Also, grooming your cat regularly helps with the bonding between you and your cat. Your cat will really look forward to grooming times, and will be more than happy to sit there, purring away with satisfaction, while you brush through the fur, making your cat look super sleek and shiny as it should.
You should groom your cat regularly from the time it arrives at your home. You will need a brush and comb for this purpose. Short haired cats need to be groomed about once or twice a week, and long haired varieties need to be groomed more often, to prevent matted fur lumps from forming.
Caring for cats is also therapeutic for cat-owners as well. If you are feeling somewhat stressed after a long day, start grooming your cat. You will immediately start to calm down when your cat starts purring with pleasure.
